Monovision Lasik or Lasek and CK after 40

Monovision Lasik or Lasek is one way to achieve Advanced Vision Correction that eliminates your need for reading glasses. With Monovision Lasik or Lasek, your eye surgeon at Yaldo Eye Center corrects one eye for distance vision and one eye for close vision. Within a week or two following your correction, your brain adjusts to using Monovision. During the period of adjustment, some patients experience balance difficulties or impaired depth perception.

If you are hesitant about Monovision, your eye surgeon at Yaldo Eye Center will simulate for you what to expect from Monovision during your Advanced Vision Correction Evaluation. If you are over 40, talk to your eye surgeon at Yaldo Eye Center and learn more about Monovision Lasik or Lasek.

CK (Conductive Keratoplasty) is for patients with low to moderate hyperopia (0.75 to 3.0 diopters). This procedure uses radio frequency energy, rather than a laser, to reshape the contours of your eye, reducing your need for reading glasses

To perform CK, the surgeon uses a single-use probe, about 90% as wide as a human hair, in a series of pre-determined spots forming a circular band around the cornea’s mid-periphery. There may be 8 to 32 treatment spots depending upon the amount of vision correction.

CK is performed on an outpatient basis at Yaldo Eye Center using a topical anesthetic. The procedure typically takes three to five minutes. Recovery time is comparable to Lasik. As with laser procedures, an enhancement may be necessary to achieve the best possible vision correction. This is typically done three to six months after the initial procedure, when the eye has completely healed.

Both your age and prescription play important parts in determining what Advanced Vision Correction will give you the best results. Your eye surgeon at Yaldo Eye Center will be happy to help you weigh the pros and cons of each procedure.
